Spinal articulation
Moving the spine one segment at a time, rather than one piece at a time.

What it is
Articulation means sequencing — asking the spine to bend and return gradually, vertebra by vertebra, instead of hinging as a single block.
Why we practise it
Sequencing distributes movement across many joints rather than concentrating it in the two or three that move most easily. It also builds a very precise kind of body awareness.
What to notice
- Which part of your spine skips or moves as a block.
- Whether the return is as gradual as the way out.
- How your breath behaves as the movement gets harder.
Common experience
Almost everyone has a section that moves less. That is information, not a fault.
Try this
Try noticing what happens when you move your spine slowly rather than trying to make the movement bigger.
