Side-lying leg series

Hip work with the whole body asked to stay honest.

ExerciseFoundational3 min read8 min practice

What it is

Lying on one side, you move the top leg through lifts, circles and small swings while the torso stays quiet.

Why we practise it

It builds capacity around the hip and, just as importantly, asks the trunk not to compensate for the leg.

What to notice

  • Whether the waist collapses towards the mat.
  • If the pelvis rolls back or forward.

Progress / modify

  • Head on the arm or a cushion.
  • Smaller range with more precision.
